Raskolnikov's inner struggle became more intense. On one hand, he believed he did the right thing, on the other hand, he felt deep sin and fear.

He started having nightmares, dreaming that he was killing again. These nightmares made him unable to sleep, and his mental state became worse.

Encouraged by Sonya, Raskolnikov decided to face reality. He knew he could no longer escape and must take responsibility for his actions.
