Capítulo 15: A Pobreza dos Camponeses
Besides Run Tu, many other farmers came too. They wore worn-out clothes, their faces covered with wrinkles, looking very tired.
Para além de Run Tu, também vieram muitos outros agricultores. Vestiam roupas gastas, os rostos cobertos de rugas, parecendo muito cansados.
They came to help move things, not asking for payment, just to help out. They were very friendly, very honest, but also very poor.
Vieram ajudar a mudar as coisas, sem pedir pagamento, apenas para ajudar. Eram muito simpáticos, muito honestos, mas também muito pobres.
I saw one farmer whose shoe had a large hole, and his toes were exposed. I asked him, "Your shoe is broken, why don't you buy new ones?"
Vi um agricultor cujo sapato tinha um grande buraco e os dedos estavam expostos. Perguntei-lhe: "O teu sapato está roto, porque não compras novos?"
He said, "No money, as long as it can be worn, it's fine."
Ele disse: "Não há dinheiro, desde que dê para usar, está bom."
I looked at him, feeling very sad. These people have to labor hard every day, but their income is very little. They can't afford new clothes, can't afford new shoes, and can't even afford their children's tuition.
Olhei para ele, sentindo-me muito triste. Estas pessoas têm de trabalhar arduamente todos os dias, mas o seu rendimento é muito pouco. Não podem comprar roupa nova, não podem comprar sapatos novos e nem sequer podem pagar as propinas dos filhos.
Is this the reality of the countryside? Is this the life of farmers?
É esta a realidade do campo? É esta a vida dos agricultores?
