Chapter 7: The Day We Met
제7장: 우리가 만난 날
I sat opposite Run Tu, recalling the day we first met.
나는 룬투 맞은편에 앉아 우리가 처음 만난 날을 회상했다.
It was a summer afternoon, and I was playing in the melon fields. Father said that someone was coming to help our family, and his name was Run Tu.
어느 여름 오후였고, 나는 수박밭에서 놀고 있었다. 아버지는 누군가 우리 가족을 도우러 올 것이며, 그의 이름은 룬투라고 말씀하셨다.
I saw Run Tu arrive. He was wearing a blue cloth shirt and looked very energetic. Father said that Run Tu's family was very poor, so he came to help our family earn money.
나는 룬투가 도착하는 것을 보았다. 그는 파란 천 셔츠를 입고 있었고 매우 활기차 보였다. 아버지는 룬투의 집이 매우 가난해서 우리 가족이 돈을 버는 것을 돕기 위해 왔다고 말씀하셨다.
We quickly became friends. He taught me how to grow melons, how to catch badgers, and how to identify various birds. I taught him to read, taught him to write. We played together in the melon fields, swam together in the river, and picked fruit together on the mountain.
우리는 금방 친구가 되었다. 그는 나에게 수박 기르는 법, 오소리 잡는 법, 그리고 다양한 새를 구별하는 법을 가르쳐 주었다. 나는 그에게 글 읽는 법을 가르쳐 주었고, 글 쓰는 법을 가르쳐 주었다. 우리는 수박밭에서 함께 놀았고, 강에서 함께 수영했으며, 산에서 함께 과일을 땄다.
At that time, Run Tu was so lively, so cheerful. He always smiled, always had endless things to say.
그 당시 룬투는 정말 활기차고 명랑했다. 그는 항상 웃었고, 항상 할 말이 끊이지 않았다.
Now, Run Tu is so silent, so exhausted.
지금 룬투는 너무 말이 없고, 너무 지쳐 있다.
