Chapter 9: The Poetry Club
第九章：詩社
After Baoyu recovered from his wounds, life in the mansion slowly returned to normal. One autumn morning, Tanchun, one of Baoyu's sisters, had a wonderful idea. "Why don't we start a poetry club?" she suggested. "We can meet in the garden, write poems, and share our thoughts."
宝玉が傷から回復した後、屋敷の生活はゆっくりと正常に戻りました。秋のある朝、宝玉の姉妹の一人である探春が素晴らしいアイデアを思いつきました。「詩社を始めましょう」と彼女は提案しました。「庭園に集まって、詩を書いて、考えを共有できます。」
Everyone loved the idea. The young ladies of the house each chose a name for the club, based on the places where they lived in the garden. Baoyu called himself "The Happy Lover of Red," while Daiyu chose "The Mournful Keeper of Bamboos." Baochai named herself "The Lady of the蘅芜 Court."
皆そのアイデアを気に入りました。家の若い娘たちはそれぞれ庭園で住んでいる場所に基づいてクラブの名前を選びました。宝玉は自分を「怡紅公子」と呼び、黛玉は「瀟湘妃子」を選びました。宝釵は「蘅蕪君」と名乗りました。
They met every week in a beautiful pavilion surrounded by chrysanthemums. Each person would write a poem on a given topic, and the others would read and judge them. The topics ranged from the beauty of autumn to the meaning of friendship. Sometimes they wrote about the moon, and sometimes about the flowers blooming in the garden.
彼らは毎週菊に囲まれた美しい東屋で会いました。各人が与えられたテーマについて詩を書き、他の人が読んで評価しました。テーマは秋の美しさから友情の意味まで様々でした。時には月について書き、時には庭園で咲く花について書きました。
Daiyu's poems were always the most moving. Her words carried a deep sadness that touched everyone's heart. Baochai's poems were elegant and well-crafted, showing her wisdom and education. Baoyu's poems were full of emotion but less careful in their form.
黛玉の詩はいつも最も感動的でした。彼女の言葉は皆の心に触れる深い悲しみを運んでいました。宝釵の詩は優雅でよく作られており、彼女の知恵と教養を示していました。宝玉の詩は感情に満ちていましたが、形式にはあまり注意が払われていませんでした。
The poetry club became the happiest time in their young lives. For a few hours each week, they could forget about the rules and worries of the mansion. They were simply young people who loved words and beauty, sharing their hearts with each other through the art of poetry.
