Chapter 3: Baoyu and Daiyu Meet
第三章：宝玉と黛玉の出会い
The first time Baoyu saw Daiyu, he was struck by her delicate beauty. She sat quietly in Grandmother Jia's room, her eyes lowered, her hands folded in her lap. She wore simple clothes, but there was something about her that made her stand out from all the other girls in the house.
宝玉が初めて黛玉を見た時、彼は彼女の繊細な美しさに感銘を受けました。彼女は賈母の部屋に静かに座り、目を伏せ、手を膝の上に組んでいました。彼女はシンプルな服を着ていましたが、彼女には屋敷の他のどの娘とも違う何かがありました。
"Have I seen you before?" Baoyu asked, walking closer to her. His words surprised everyone in the room. Daiyu looked up at him with wide eyes. She too felt a strange sense of familiarity, as if they had met in another life.
「以前にお会いしましたか？」宝玉は彼女に近づいて尋ねました。彼の言葉は部屋にいた皆を驚かせました。黛玉は大きな目で彼を見つめました。彼女も奇妙な親近感を感じていました。まるで前世で出会ったかのように。
Grandmother Jia smiled at the two children. "You are cousins," she said gently. "You should be good friends." From that day forward, Baoyu and Daiyu spent most of their time together. They read books, wrote poems, and walked through the garden, sharing their thoughts and dreams.
賈母は二人の子供に微笑みました。「あなたたちはいとこよ」と彼女は優しく言いました。「仲良くしなければなりませんね。」その日以来、宝玉と黛玉はほとんどの時間を一緒に過ごしました。彼らは本を読み、詩を書き、庭園を歩き、考えや夢を共有しました。
Baoyu found that Daiyu understood him better than anyone else. She was clever and sensitive, with a sharp mind and a kind heart. When he spoke of his dislike for the government exams, she did not scold him as others did. Instead, she listened and nodded, understanding his desire for freedom.
宝玉は黛玉が誰よりも自分を理解していることに気づきました。彼女は賢く感受性が強く、鋭い心と優しい心を持っていました。彼が科挙の試験への嫌悪について話しても、彼女は他の人たちのように彼を叱りませんでした。代わりに、彼女は聞いて頷き、彼の自由への望みを理解しました。
But Daiyu was also a girl who felt things deeply. Small words and actions could hurt her, and she often cried in secret. Baoyu tried his best to make her happy, bringing her flowers and writing her poems. Their bond grew stronger each day, though neither of them could name the feeling that connected their hearts.
しかし、黛玉もまた物事を深く感じる少女でした。小さな言葉や行動が彼女を傷つけることができ、彼女はよく一人で泣いていました。宝玉は彼女を喜ばせようと最善を尽くし、花を持ってきたり詩を書いたりしました。彼らの絆は日々強くなっていきましたが、二人とも彼らの心をつなぐ感情に名前をつけることはできませんでした。
