第13章：ルントゥの変化
Run Tu is completely different from when he was a child.
ルントゥは子供の頃とは全く違います。
The Run Tu of childhood was lively and cheerful, liked to talk, liked to smile. He always had endless things to say, always had endless stories to tell.
子供の頃のルントゥは生き生きとして陽気で、話すのが好きで、笑うのが好きでした。彼はいつも話すことが尽きず、いつも語る物語が尽きませんでした。
The current Run Tu is silent and rarely speaks, rarely smiles. His eyes are filled with exhaustion and helplessness. His face is written with the hardships of life.
現在のルントゥは無口でめったに話さず、めったに笑いません。彼の目は疲労と無力感で満ちています。彼の顔には人生の苦難が刻まれています。
I asked him if life is very difficult. He said, it's alright, just a bit tiring. He has to get up early every day, work in the fields, and can't rest until very late at night. All year round, there's no time to rest.

I asked him how the children are doing. He said, they're alright, but it's very difficult to go to school. The school is too far, the tuition is too expensive, so he can only let the children attend school for a few years, then go work.
私は彼に、子供たちはどうしているか尋ねました。彼は、彼らは元気だが、学校に行くのはとても難しいと言いました。学校は遠すぎ、授業料は高すぎるので、子供たちを数年間学校に通わせてから、働きに行かせることしかできません。
I looked at him, feeling very sad. Is this the power of life? Can it turn a lively child into a silent adult?
